The Lux Spring Fling

#LuxSpringFling

Spring is a time of renewal. As winter gives way to the warm sunshine of spring, seeds begin to sprout, flowers bloom, and there is an overall sense of renewal. This “new beginning” can apply to all of us as well and how we take care of ourselves inside and out.

The #LuxSpringFling is all about skincare, beauty, and healthy living. In this new post series we will be posting tips on our  Instagram Page and, along the way, throw out a few fun and interesting facts you may not know about. We will also be running some promotions and perhaps a few contests along the way so keep an eye out for the hashtag #LuxSpringFling

If you know someone that can benefit from this, please tag them. If you have a good tip to share, feel free to leave a comment – it’s about community and we love hearing from you 🙂

Starting Off Right

We all want to look our best and when we talk about beauty, it’s important to remember that makeup should be used as an accessory to enhance our inner beauty. The first, and most important ingredient in any skincare routine has less to do with products or techniques. Rather, it has everything to do with how we see ourselves. Take these findings from this recent study as an example:

  • Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful (up from 2% in 2004)
  • Only 11% of girls globally are comfortable using the word beautiful to describe themselves
  • 72% of girls feel tremendous pressure to be beautiful
  • 80% of women agree that every woman has something about her that is beautiful but do not see their own beauty
  • More than half (54%) of women globally agree that when it comes to how they look, they are their own worst beauty critic

These are feelings that, at one time or another, everyone has had and age doesn’t discriminate – it merely represents a different set of “obstacles”. The remedy for this isn’t easy and it’s certainly not in our realm of expertise! But, there is one thing each of us can do within ourselves and together as a community and that is to remember this:

We are all beautiful… We are all beautifully unique…
&
We all have something to offer!

With this in mind, let’s get started…

Tip of the day

When using products that contain retinoids, apply sunscreen, preferably SPF 30 or higher, prior to venturing outside.

Retin What?

This tip is common knowledge but it has special significance for people who use retinoids which, for some of us, is our “holy grail!”

We use products that contain retinoids, (also known as retinols, retin-A, tretinoin, etc.) for any number of skin issues including acne, psoriasis, AND…. let’s not forget…wrinkles!!! The thing to remember when using products that contain these ingredients is that retinoids increase your skins sensitivity to sunlight, both natural AND artificial (i.e. Tanning beds.)

Be sure to check the ingredients of any products or medications you apply to your skin. If they have any form of retinoids in them – give your skin some extra protection.

Most quality cosmetic brands have a moisturizer with sunscreen in them. After applying your moisturizer (preferably SPF30 or higher), make sure to give it a few minutes to soak into your skin prior to applying your makeup.  Your skin will thank you for this 🙂
